Merchants
As a merchant, your goal with an ATM is cash retention and transaction revenue. Cash retention is the money dispensed by the ATM that customers spend while in your business. In fact, statistics prove that customers who use ATMs purchase 20-25% more than non-ATM users. By adding an ATM to your business, your foot traffic will increase, and so will your bottom line. |
Hotels
Hoteliers probably have the most unique needs of all our customers. From cabinet design to the ultimate placement of the machine, outfitting either a single hotel or a nationwide chain calls for consistency across the board. Your customers want the kind of familiarity they find with your hotels, with no surprises from location to location. That's why Spectrum ATM Services is the ideal choice for hotels. When we design a hotel program, intuitive design is our chief concern. |

From Hotel & Motel Management, March 2, 1998
An ATM in a hotel is a smart decision for an operator because it eliminates the need for the guests to cash checks at front desk, and also gives guests a reason to stay on the property... [It has been] found that if there is a large nightclub or restaurant on the property and the guest has easy access to cash, that cash will be spent in-house instead of at a local establishment.
The lease pays for itself...That doesn't [even] include the cost savings from accepting bad checks or from the additional revenue spent in the hotel.

From Nation's Restaurant News, November 3, 1997
Research results reported by the Florida Restaurant Association indicate that half of all adult Americans use ATM machines and the typical user visits an ATM more than seven times a month. People who use ATMs purchase 20 to 25 percent more [at the ATM site] than non-ATM customers.
"I wish I'd had it eight years ago," [Kelly Bailey, general manager of the Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort and Inn in Indianapolis] says, "our business is up, and I'm convinced the ATM has contributed. Not only that, but we're counting up more cash than credit card receipts and checks these days."
[Colorado Restaurant Association] president Pete Meersman says, "We believe ATM machines are going to be a critical part of food and beverage operations in the future. ATMs are going to be appearing in more and more restaurants and nightclubs, where convenience and cash are important."
Consumer research, according to the association's report, shows why ATMs and food service are such a good match:
- Foot traffic at restaurants and bars with ATMs can increase up to 30 percent; transactions increase an average of 10 to 20 percent.
- Up to 80 percent of cash obtained from ATMs in nightclubs and bars is spent on site; up to 40 percent obtained from ATMs at quick-serve restaurants is spent on site.
- "Getting something to eat" and "Getting cash" are near the top of the list of tasks ATM users say they'd like to combine.
- On-site ATMs reduce credit card fees.
From Nightclub and Bar Magazine, March 1998
"We put [the ATM] in a highly visible spot," [Russ Teising, owner of The Gypsy and the Lotus Cardroom and Café in Portland, Oregon] said, "It's by the door in both locations."...The machine is reliable and it takes up little space. "I think the important thing is the convenience for the customer, and I want to make it easy for customers to have money in their pocket and hopefully spend it in our restaurants and bars." |

Financial Institutions
Off-Premise strategies are becoming more and more popular with many financial institutions, from Money Center banks to regional institutions to local credit unions. Their strategies go beyond simply earning transaction revenue and encompassing a range of benefits. Many of our financial services companies use their ATMs to:
- Create an off-site billboard for their brand, through both the ATM and exterior signage at the site.
- Provide convenient cash dispensing services for their business customers to strengthen their position as a commercial bank.
- Strengthen their DDA business by providing an alternative delivery convenience in diverse retail markets.
- Bin blocking and special bank programs available.
By working with Spectrum ATM Services, financial institutions can expand their ATM presence and brand without any additional infrastructure costs. |
From Bank Technology News, December 1997
The final piece of cost-effective ATM deployment is the use of low-cost machines. In its wildest dreams, Triton Systems, Inc. of Long Beach, MS, probably could not have imagined it had such a good thing on its hands when it introduced in 1994 a cash dispenser that cost less than $10,000. "We designed the machine to do one thingdispense cash," says Frank Wilem, executive vice president of Triton. Thanks to their simple design, which makes them easy to maintain and operate, the Triton machines can break even after as few as 100 transactions.
From Credit Union Magazine, November 2000
The ATM has become so trusted and reliable that more than 60 billion consumer transactions will flow over this platform this year. Consumers are performing more transactions on this platform than at any other financial service delivery point. Consumers have become so dependent on ATMs that maybe it's time we rename them CAPs-Consumer Access Points.

From Vending Times CENSUS OF THE INDUSTRY, 1998
